Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Medicare Advantage plans, also known as Part C, are an all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare. These plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare and include everything that Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance) cover — plus extra benefits, in some cases.

What’s Included

  • Hospital care (inpatient)
  • Doctor visits (outpatient)
  • Most include prescription drug coverage (Part D)
  • Extra benefits like vision, dental, hearing, and wellness programs
  • In some cases, transportation or over-the-counter allowances

How They Work

Instead of getting Medicare coverage directly from the government, you get it through a private insurer. You’ll still have to follow the plan’s network rules for doctors, specialists, and hospitals, and you may need referrals for certain services.

Costs to Consider

  • You’ll still pay your Part B premium (and sometimes an additional plan premium)
  • Copays, coinsurance, and deductibles will depend on your plan
  • Each plan has an annual maximum out-of-pocket limit — once you hit that number, you won’t pay for covered services for the rest of the year

Who It’s Best For

  • People who want all-in-one coverage (medical + drug + extras) in one plan
  • Those who are comfortable using a network of providers
  • Individuals looking for added benefits not included in Original Medicare
